Essence: We ask in this program, what are the aspects of a homeland defining its true impact on you, the individual? This program will feature our first commission of the season by Adam Maness with a piece called The Delmar Wall. With Ligeti, we will hear a composer released from the constraints of communism finally free to express the rhythm of his homeland. Bartok and Dvorak capture the spirit of their countries in every tune they wrote. The program concludes with the masterwork by the great German composer, Brahms, who's music is the quintessential sound of his time and place.
